Eutrophication water body में excess nutrients (especially nitrogen and phosphorus) के accumulation से algal blooms की process है — leading to oxygen depletion and death of aquatic life.
Stages:
- Nutrient enrichment (from fertilisers, sewage)
- Algal bloom (excessive growth of algae)
- Algae die and decompose
- Decomposition consumes oxygen (BOD increases)
- DO decreases → fish and other organisms die
Causes:
