Intergenerational Equity — अंतर-पीढ़ी न्याय
Intergenerational Equity का अर्थ है present generation को environment और resources का उपयोग इस प्रकार करना चाहिए कि future generations भी अपनी needs पूरी कर सकें।

Intragenerational Equity — अंतर-पीढ़ी न्याय (वर्तमान)
Intragenerational Equity का अर्थ है current generation के भीतर fairness and justice — resources और benefits का equitable distribution.

Carrying Capacity — वहन क्षमता
Carrying Capacity किसी environment की maximum population size है जिसे वह sustain कर सकता है — बिना degradation के।
Key Points:
- Determined by resources (food, water, space)
- Exceeding carrying capacity leads to degradation
- Human activities can increase or decrease carrying capacity
- Population growth must respect carrying capacity
Polluter Pays Principle — प्रदूषक भुगतान सिद्धांत
Polluter Pays Principle (PPP) के अनुसार जो pollutes (प्रदूषण फैलाता है) उसे cost (cleanup, compensation, damage) भी वहन करनी चाहिए।
Key Points:
- Polluter should bear the cost of pollution
- Encourages prevention and cleaner technologies
- Internalises external costs
- Recognised in environmental law (national and international)
Precautionary Principle — एहतियाती सिद्धांत
Precautionary Principle के अनुसार यदि किसी activity से environmental harm का risk है, तो scientific certainty न होने पर भी preventive measures लिए जाने चाहिए।
Key Points:
- Lack of scientific certainty is not an excuse for inaction
- Preventive action should be taken before damage occurs
- Burden of proof lies with the proponent (activity proposer)
- Widely used in environmental policy and climate change

- Mitigation: Measures to reduce negative impacts
- Reporting: EIA report/document
- Review: Independent review of EIA
