Meaning of Teaching Method

Teaching Method से आशय उस व्यवस्थित प्रक्रिया से है जिसके माध्यम से teacher निर्धारित learning objectives प्राप्त करने के लिए content, activities, resources, communication और assessment को organise करता है।

Teaching Method = Objectives + Content + Learner Needs + Learning Activities + Assessment

Teacher-Centred Method

Teacher-centred = Teacher Control + Content Delivery + Uniform Pace + Learner Reception
  • Teacher is primary source of content
  • Controls classroom activities
  • Determines teaching pace
  • Explains content
  • Expects prescribed responses from learners
  • Learner role is comparatively receptive

Methods: Lecture, Explanation, Demonstration, Direct instruction, Expository method, Chalk and talk, Teacher-led presentation, Drill and practice

Lecture Method

व्याख्यान विधि — Teacher systematically oral presentation through information/explanation.

  • When useful: Large class, limited time, new topic introduction, expert knowledge, overview, theoretical subjects
  • Advantages: Large number of learners, economical, systematic content, expert insights
  • Limitations: Learner passive, individual differences ignored, limited critical thinking, one-way communication risk

Exam Trap: Lecture method is not always ineffective. Short, interactive, well-structured lecture with examples, questions, feedback can be effective.

Demonstration Method

Teacher performs a process/experiment/skill; learner observes.

Examples: Lab experiment, statistical software operation, teaching skill demo, machine operation, art technique.

Important: If teacher only demonstrates → teacher-directed. If learners practice, discuss, get feedback → becomes learner-centred.

Exam Trap: Just sending recorded video is NOT flipped classroom. In-class active learning with pre-class content is required.

  • Synchronous (समकालिक): Same time participation. Examples: Live online class, webinar, real-time chat, video conference. Advantages: Immediate interaction, instant feedback, social presence. Limitations: Fixed time, stable Internet required, time-zone issues.
  • Asynchronous (असमकालिक): Same-time presence not required. Examples: Recorded lecture, e-mail, discussion board, downloadable notes, self-paced MOOC. Advantages: Time flexibility, self-paced, repeatable. Limitations: Delayed feedback, isolation risk, high self-discipline required.

Blended Learning = Offline Interaction + Online Flexibility

Exam Trap: Uploading classroom lecture recording is NOT meaningful blended learning. Purposeful integration of both modes is required.
